Int’l Quran Contest Kicks Off in Tunisia

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 17th edition of Tunisia’s international Quran contest got underway in a ceremony in the capital Tunis on Saturday.

 

According to alme7war.net website, the ceremony was held at al-Zaytuna Mosque with a number of religious and political officials as well as Muslim countries’ diplomats in attendance.

The contenders compete in the categories of memorization, interpretation and Tajweed recitation of the Quran.

Representatives of 21 countries are present at the 17th edition of the contest, which is named after Imam Hassan bin Khalaf bin Balima Kairouani, a prominent 11th century Tunisian Qari.

Hossein Poorkavir, a memorizer of the entire Quran, is representing the Islamic Republic of Iran in the international Quranic event.

Tunisia’s ministry of religious affairs organizes the competition annually.
