Saudi Preacher Says KL Summit against Quran
Saleh bin Awad al-Maghamsi, the prayer leader of Quba Mosque in the holy city of Medina, told MBC satellite TV in an interview that it was against the teachings of the Quran to organize the summit.
He cited part of verse 189 of Surah al-Baqara “Enter dwellings by their doors” and said the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is an umbrella organization for all Muslim countries but the Kuala Lumpur Summit failed to enter the house via that door.
Al-Maghamsi added that absence of Saudi Arabia, which calls itself custodian of the two Holy Mosques, was another reason why the summit should not have been held.
The summit was either seeking to distance Saudi Arabia from its “historical role” or the participating countries sought to establish a new organization for Muslim world, he claimed.
Presidents and leaders from Muslim nations including Turkey, Iran and Qatar attended Kuala Lumpur Summit, despite efforts by Saudi Arabia and allies to derail the event. Riyadh only succeeded to put pressure on Pakistan to pull out of the summit. At least 250 foreign representatives from 52 countries joined the KL Summit, which sought to find solutions to the Muslim world problems.
