In a ceremony held in Karbala on Monday, November 4, a day before the start of the mourning month of Muharram, the black flags were installed instead of the previous ones, Buratha news agency reported.
The ceremony was attended by a large number of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) devotees who mourned the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his faithful companions.
The flags of the holy mausoleums of Imam Ali (AS) in Najaf and Imam Musa Kazem (AS) in Kazemeyn were also changed with black ones on Monday.
The replacing of the holy shrines’ flags takes place every year as a sign of the beginning of two months of grief.
Shia Muslims all around the world mourn the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions in the month of Muharram on the lunar Hijri calendar.
