Terrorists Target Umayyad Mosque in Damascus
In their latest blind move, they launched mortal shells on the historical mosque on Friday, November 29, Al-Alam news network reported.
4 people were killed and a number of others wounded in the attack, the report said, adding that the inured are receiving treatment in Damascus hospitals.
The mortar attack took place after the Friday prayers when worshippers were leaving the historical mosque.
The Umayyad Mosque, or the Great Mosque of Damascus, is located in the old city of Damascus. It is one of the largest and oldest mosques in the world.
Armed terrorists have destroyed a large number of mosques in different Syrian cities since the start of the unrest in the country.
The great historical mosque of Aleppo was one of these mosques which was destroyed at the direct order of Abdul Qader Saleh, commander of the rebel group Tawhid Brigade.
Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011. According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies- especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey- are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.
