The Supreme Council of Al-Azhar Scholars in Egypt will decide on the resignation of Yusuf Al-Qaradawi today.

According to Elaosboa website, the council will hold a meeting on December 9 at Al-Azhar Islamic Center to consider the resignation of Al-Qaradawi.

The meeting will be presided over by Abbas Shouman, deputy head of Al-Azhar, the report said.

The Supreme Council of Al-Azhar Scholars is the highest religious authority affiliated to Egypt’s Al-Azhar Islamic Center.

Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, who is the president of the Muslim Scholars International Union,  has recently announced his resignation from the council on social media.

Since the ouster of former president Mohammad Morsi, Al-Qaradawi has become a critic of the Egyptian government, calling Morsi’s overthrow a coup.

He has been urging the Egyptian people to continue their street rallies in protest to the military coup d'état.

The extremist cleric has also called on Takfiri Salafists to go to Syria to fight against the government of President Bashar Al-Assad.
