Yemen’s security forces foiled an attempt to smuggle 8 rare manuscript copies of the Quran.

According to Al-Khabar website, security forces in Hadida province confiscated the rare copies, which were being smuggled to Saudi Arabia.

The manuscripts were spotted in a car with Saudi plate number.

Security forces arrested the driver and his 20-year old son who were trying to smuggle the copies and gave them over to judiciary officials for legal procedures.

Muhammad Hamdin, a provincial official, said some of the manuscript copies date back to 5 centuries ago.

He said as well as the 8 manuscript Quran copies, the two had tried to smuggle a number of marble statuettes out of the country.
