African Countries Invited to Attend Egypt Int’l Quran Contest

Invitations have been sent to a number of African countries to dispatch representatives to the international Holy Quran competition of Egypt.


Egypt’s Minister of Awqaf Muhammad Mukhtar Guma said Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda and Congo are among the countries invited to the competition, Fitu website reported.

Invitations have also been sent to Gabon, Senegal, Cameroon, Djibouti, Zambia, Sierra Leone, Tunisia, Gambia, Madagascar, Liberia, Ghana, Mozambique, Namibia and Nigeria. 

The 21st edition of Egypt’s international Quran competition is slated to be held on April 5-10 in the capital, Cairo.

It will have several categories, including memorization of the entire Quran along with Tajweed, memorization of 20 Juzes (parts) of the Quran along with Tajweed and Tarteel, and memorization of the final 8 Juzes of the Quran.

The closing ceremony of the competition is expected to be attended by high-ranking Egyptian officials including the president of Egypt and head of the Al-Azhar University Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayyeb.
