School staff members discovered the damage about 9:30 a.m. Saturday, said Dr. Khaled Abdelkader, chairman of the school's board of directors.
"We don't know who would do this to the school," Dr. Abdelkader said.
A spokeswoman for Worcester police said the department's crime scene unit was sent to the school to process evidence. An investigation is under way, Kathleen E. Daly said in an email.
Alhuda Academy is a private Islamic day school at 248 East Mountain St. that opened in 2001 and enrolls about 110 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The school adjoins the Worcester Islamic Center.
Dr. Abdelkader and school Financial Manager Nabila Mohammed said damage occurred in the principal's office.
The school, like Worcester Public Schools, was closed Thursday and Friday because of bad weather and will be closed next week for February vacation.
Dr. Abdelkader said school officials had not yet been able to assess the cost of the damage.
"As soon as they (police) tell us it's OK, we'll have to do an inventory of damage and clean up and resume school," he said.
