A seminar was held in Mauritania on Thursday, March 6, to condemn desecration of the Quran.

Titled “Condemnation of Desecration of Quran’s Sanctity”, the seminar was held in the city of Nouadhibou with the participation of a number of Fqihs (religious scholars) and prayers leaders, Al-Akhbar news network reported.
Muhammad Yaslim Walad, a participant at the event, said it was held with the aim of clarifying the danger of spread of Kufr (disbelief).
He said desecration of the Holy Book in an Islamic country is dangerous thing to happen and hoped such incident will not happen again,
He urged all Muslims to read the Quran and contemplate its teachings and confront the attacks against Islamic sanctities.
On Monday, March 3, four unidentified men entered a mosque in the capital Nouakchott, removed four copies of the Quran, and desecrated them.
As news spread about the incident, thousands of people gathered in front of the presidential palace to show their anger.
The demonstration got violent as police used tear gas to disperse the protesters.
One of the demonstrators, a university student, was killed in the clashes, reportedly for inhaling a large amount of tear gas.
Mauritanian government’s spokesman Sayed Mohammad Walad Muhim has said the government will bring to justice those behind desecration of the Muslim Holy Book.
