The Center for Interreligious Dialogue (CID) has slammed the assassination of a Dutch priest in the city of Homs, Syria.

The CID, which is affiliated to the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization, in a statement said the killing of Frans van der Lugt once again exposed the inhumane face of extremist groups that operate in Syria with the West’s backing.
It said such assassinations, whose victims include both Muslims and Christians, and the destruction of mosques and churches by these groups are proof that blind terrorism has targeted religion, peace and humanity.
The CID condemned the incident and expressed condolences to Syria’s Christians and other Syrians and the peace-loving people of the world.
It also urged Western governments to stop supporting terrorists in Syria and called on the Syrian government to bring the perpetrators of the assassination to justice.
Dutch priest Frans van der Lugt, 75, who was renowned for his insistence on staying in Syria's besieged city of Homs, was shot dead there by an unknown gunman last week.
