Iraq’s Dhi Qar University Planning College of Quranic Studies

The University of Dhi Qar in South of Iraq plans to launch a college of Quranic studies, one of the university’s professors told IQNA.

Heydar Mustafa Hijr, who heads the Quranic sciences department of the university’s faculty of literature, said the specialized college of Quranic studies will be launched next year.
He referred to the activities of the Quranic sciences department, saying that it was established eight years ago.
Tens of students have studied Quranic sciences and the views of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) about these sciences while avoiding any sectarianism.
He added that the department has aimed to globalize the teachings of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS).
According to Mustafa Hijr, in addition to its academic agenda, the department organizes Quranic sessions and its students attend research competitions.
He said research studies are conducted by the department’s students and professors in different Quranic areas such as Tafsir (interpretation), history of the Quranic sciences, Fiqh (jurisprudence), logics, and Quranic concepts.
He went on to say that the department also collects and studies Quranic and Islamic manuscripts.
Mustafa Hijralso stated that the department has coolaborations with a number of Iraqi institutes and organizations including the Institute for Proximity of Seminaries and Universities.
Located in Nasiriyah, south of Iraq, Thi Qar University was established in 2000. Originally, the university was a branch of the University of Basrah, and the branch was established in 1992. Its first graduating class was in 1996. In 2000, the branch became independent of Basrah University and Thi Qar University was founded.
