The contest was inaugurated in the Iranian capital of Tehran on Monday in a ceremony attended by a number of senior officials and Quranic and cultural figures.
According to Hojat-ol-Islam Ali Mohammadi, head of the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization, 15 internationally-known Quran experts, including five Iranians, form the jury panel of this edition of the competition.
He said three Quranic figures supervise the competition to make sure it is held optimally.
The annual competition is held by the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization to encourage the public to read the Holy Quran and to act upon the teachings of the Holy Quran.
On the sidelines of this year's competition, a Quranic exhibition is being held in which some 60 booths showcase Quranic works and products.
