IQNA – The Colombian government’s decision to recognize Israeli claims about the occupied Syrian Golan Heights was strongly condemned by the Muslim World League (MWL).

In a statement issued by the MWL General Secretariat, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, the Secretary-General of the MWL and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, denounced this recognition as a violation of international law and relevant resolutions of international legitimacy, particularly UN Security Council Resolution 497 of 1981, which declared Israel’s imposition of its laws, jurisdiction, and administration on the occupied Syrian Golan Heights null and void and without international legal effect.

He reaffirmed that the Golan Heights are Syrian Arab territory that has been occupied by the Zionist regime and that any measures or decisions to the contrary are null and void, rejected, and condemned, and undermine efforts to achieve peace in the region.

The Golan Heights were occupied by the Israeli regime during the 1967 Middle East war.
