The militants on Wednesday detonated several bombs they had installed around al-Arbaeen mosque in the center of the northern Iraq city, al-Yawm al-Sabi daily reported.
Members of the Takfiri terrorist group have destroyed many holy sites as well as historical building in the areas they have captured in Syria and Iraq.
ISIL terrorists took control of the cities of Mosul and Tikrit, located 140 kilometers (87 miles) northwest of the capital, Baghdad, in June.
They have been committing heinous crimes in the areas they took, including the mass execution of civilians as well as Iraqi army troops and officers.
The terrorists have links with Saudi intelligence and are believed to be indirectly supported by the Zionist regime.
