An official with the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine said the Astan has made necessary preparations for the arrival of pilgrims.
Sayyid Afdhal al-Shami said steps have been taken to make sure that the pilgrims will receive the best services during their stay in the holy city.
He also said checkpoints have been set up and security cameras have been installed to ensure security in the city.
Every year, millions of pilgrims from different parts of Iraq as well as other countries convene in the holy city on the days of Arafah and Eid al-Adha.
The ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah (the 12th and final month of the Islamic calendar) is the Day of 'Arafah and the tenth day is Eid al-Adha (festival of sacrifice) which falls on Sunday, October 5, this year.
