-- Only scholars and experts can work on translating and interpreting the holy Quran, said grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi.
Speaking to the personnel of the Islamic Ideology Dissemination Organization, the grand Shiite source of emulation added that the holy Quran is the ultimate source of guidance and thus utmost care should be taken in translation and interpretation of its verses.

He pointed to errors in some of the translations published in the country and said “In one of these translations, Ma’ad (resurrection) has been translated as the advent of Imam Zaman (may God hasten his glad advent). This is absolutely wrong and is somehow denial of Ma’ad as one of the pillars of Islamic belief system. In another case, the verses pertaining to the issue of Velayat have been inaccurately translated.”

He called for identifying and encouraging pious and devout scholars to embark on the great task of translating and interpreting verses of the Quran.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi referred to the activities of the Islamic Ideology Dissemination Organization and noted that the organization was founded after the victory of the Islamic Revolution to safeguard the thought bases of the Islamic system.

He stressed the need for the organization to expand its activities as “strengthening people’s religious bases will boost the Islamic system in he country.”
