Describing the characteristics of Imam Ali (AS), Osman Mohammad Jah, deputy head of Gambia Islamic Council and founder of the CPIST said, “He is an eminent, universal and comprehensive figure whose characteristics are representatives of all Islamic values.”
Imam Ali (AS) was a relation of the prophet (PBUH), never worshipped idols and was raised by the prophet of Islam, he noted. “The virtues of Imam Ali (AS) were frequently mentioned by the prophet of Islam in various Hadiths.”
“Whoever has studied the history of Islam admits that Imam Ali (AS) was the true successor of the prophet of Islam. After the holy prophet’s demise, Imam Ali with his patience gave an important lesson to all the people of the world”, Mohammad Jah said.
Stressing the duty of scholars to introduce the character of Imam Ali (AS), he said, “He should be introduced to the world since anyone who gets to know him will find the right path.”
According to the Sunni intellectual, the center has tried to promote unity among Muslims through holding dialogues and propagation.
“The center’s library consists of two parts including both Shia and Sunni books, which is considered a new step taken in Gambia,” he added.
Stating that there are many people in his country who excommunicate Shia Muslims, he said, “Having travelled to a number of countries such as Iran, I have met with Shia intellectuals who have helped remove my misconceptions; hence, I want to try my best to change the attitude of the people in my country towards Shia Muslims.”
He went on to say that, “Our great religious leaders and outstanding figures like the late Imam Khomeini have taught us resistance in the right path.”
