Two Desecrating Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) Sentenced in Tunisia
Two internet users who were found guilty of desecrating Islamic sanctities were sentenced to over 7 years in prison.
According to jeuneafrique website, the defendants are accused of placing sacrilegious images of Prophet Mohammad (PBHU) on Facebook.
The trial is the first undergoing by the Tunisian court in Al-Mahdiah following the fall of Ben Ali’s regime and establishment of Islamic rules in the country.
Only one of the desecrators has been arrested but both have been sentenced to 7/5 years in jail.
The second defendant, who is at large, has been sentenced to seven years in prison in absentia.
Another fugitive desecrator, Qazi Beji, is also believed to have profaned Islamic sanctities and even denied the existence of God on other websites .
