The martyred grand Ayatollah Seyyed Muhammad Baqer Sadr was a political leader who made special efforts in promoting awakening among nations and, thus, activists in popular uprisings and Islamic Awakening should learn about his ideas and thoughts.
This is according to Ayatollah Sheikh Muhammad Baqer Nasseri who used to be among Martyr Sadr’s students. He told IQNA that the ideas of Martyr Sadr should be used by Islamic Awakening movements as an example to follow.
Speaking on the 32nd anniversary of Muhammad Baqer Sadr’s martyrdom, he stressed that Sadr was born in family whose members attained high scientific and Fiqhi (jurisprudential) ranks and were of great influence in Iran, Iraq and Lebanon.
“Sadr was the man of the 20th century and one of the Muslihs (reformers) of his time and one whose fame spread around the world. He was martyred by the despised Saddam Hussein. By murdering Sadr, Saddam committed a crime that will not be forgotten in history.”
Ayatollah Nasseri added that Martyr Sadr made many endeavors to reform seminary schools and reform the Ummah and governments. “He left legacies that were unique in Iraq and the city of Najaf.”
Former Friday prayer leader of the city of Nasiriyah referred to the ploys by domineering countries to prevent spread of Martyr Sadr’s ideas in different societies and said, “I got acquainted with Martyr Sadr in the late 1960s and was close to him until his martyrdom. He is a great character and Muslims are indebted to his works, Fiqh and thought. I hope the Islamic Ummah will learn about him more than before and benefit from his works in Fiqh, ethics and Quran interpretation.”
Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Nasseri referred to the late Imam Khomeini’s (RA) influence on Martyr Sadr and said Martyr Sadr would always urge everyone to follow the path of Imam Khomeini (RA).
He further reiterated that the books and works of Martyr Sadr have been published and are studied in seminaries and Islamic centers in the Muslim world as well as countries in Africa and America.
