The Islamic Republic of Iran is to host the 29th edition of Awqaf International Quran Contest which is scheduled to be held in coming June.
This is according to Vali Yar Ahmadi, an official with Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization, who also told IQNA that the contest would open on June 17 concurrent with the anniversary of the Holy Prophet Mohammad’s (PBUH) Be’sat (Holy Prophet's Appointment to the Prophetic Mission).
“Invitations have been sent to reciters and memorizers of 95 countries across the world,” he went on to say, adding: “We are expecting their replies regarding the introduction of their prospective representatives.”
“The number of invitations has been raised to 30 at this edition of the contest. We have also consulted with Iranian ambassadors and cultural attachés to invite the best reciters and memorizers from the corresponding countries.”
Yar Ahmadi said that regulations for attending the contest were officially determined last year and would be applied to this year’s edition as well.
The large number of participants adds a good credit to Iran’s Quranic contests, he said, noting that each country is allowed to send one reciter and one memorizer as we are determined to prioritize the quality of the contest over its quantitative aspect.”
He further said that some of the organizing committees of the contest have been already formed and would make every effort in order to organize it optimally.
