IQNA – Al-Azhar chief Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb issued a global appeal for urgent and immediate action to rescue the people of Gaza from a deadly famine.

Al-Azhar chief Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb

In a statement released Sunday evening, he urged the people of conscience in the world to take immediate action to stop the Israeli genocide in Gaza, which has been going on for nearly 22 months, and put ab end to the siege imposed by Israel, Al-Quds Al-Arabi reported.

The human conscience is being tested as thousands of innocent children and civilians are being killed in cold blood, and those who survive are dying of hunger, thirst, dehydration, and the lack of medicine as medical centers cease to function, he warned.

Al-Tayeb strongly condemned the Israeli regime’s deliberate and lethal starvation of the peaceful people of Gaza, who are struggling to find a morsel of bread or a drop of water.

He added that the targeting of displaced persons shelters and humanitarian aid distribution centers with live fire constitutes a full-fledged act of genocide.

Anyone who supports the Israeli regime with weapons or encourages it with hypocritical decisions or words is complicit in this genocide, he stated.

The famine and hunger crisis in the Gaza Strip has worsened with the intensification of the blockade of the strip by the Zionist regime and its prevention of the entry of any humanitarian aid.
