“Islam and Contemporary Issues” Course in Tehran

The second short-term course on “Islam and Contemporary Issues” will open on February 2nd in Tehran with the attendance of prominent foreign intellectuals and experts .
The course will be held under the theme of “Intellectuality in Quran and Islamic Civilization” under the supervision of theosopher Allamah Abdullah Javadi Amoli.
It is organized by Al-Mustafa International University-Tehran branch in cooperation with Esra International Foundation for Revealed Science and Philosophy, the Supreme Assembly of Islamic Wisdom, and the Iranian Institute of Philosophy
Islam’s approach towards rationality will be addressed during the course through a comparative study of the Quranic notion of Aql with a focus on Islamic sciences and modern rationalism.
On a deeper level, the course will address the following questions:
Could Islamic intellectuality and cosmology answer the questions and challenges of the contemporary world and the contemporary man? If the answer is yes, how can this take place?
The course will also tackle fundamental issues such as challenges and predicaments ahead of the contemporary man.
Aql (intellect) in Quran and traditions, Aql in Islamic philosophy and theology, Aql in Islamic spirituality and ethics, Aql in political science and Fiqh (jurisprudence), Aql in modern philosophy, and a comparative study of Islamic and modern rationality will be among the main themes of the event.
Ayatollah Mehdi Hadavi Tehrani, Qom seminary professor, Dr Hamid Parsania, lecturer at Esra Foundation, Dr Christian Yahya Bonaud, lecturer at Iran’s Wisdom and Philosophy Institute, Dr Ahmad Vae’zi, Qom seminary professor, Dr Mohammed Rustom, lecturer at Iranian Institute of Philosophy, Dr Mehadi Alizade, lecturer at Al-Mustafa Open University (AOU) and director of Moral Training and Education Center of Islamic Sciences and Culture Academy, and Dr Nasrollah Mousavian, lecturer at Iranian Institute of Philosophy will address the second edition of the course.
