Speaking about justice and freedom are the highest values in Islam, a Tehran University professor said.
Mohsen Javadi, who is an academic board member of the university, made the remark in an address to an interfaith dialogue forum with Austria’s Catholic Church, adding that Islam calls on human beings to speak out for justice.
He added that there some limitations to freedom of speech based on ethical considerations.
The basis of these limitations is either preventing social values such as order and security from being undermined or maintaining ethical values such as respecting other human beings, he said.
Javadi further said that according to Islamic teachings taken from the Quran and Hadiths, silence and speaking little has priority over speaking a lot.
The dialogue forum was held on Monday at the conference hall of the Islamic Sciences and Culture Research Center.
