God is Rahman (compassionate) and one who believes in God should himself spread Rahmat (compassion).
This is according to seminary and university scholar Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Taqi Fa’alli, speaking at the 9th session of a forum on faith-based style of life.
He elaborated on the concepts of the first 20 verses of Surah Baqarah, saying that according to these verses, God is Rahman and, therefore, those believing in Him should promote compassion.
Hojat-ol-Islam Fa’alli said there are various ways to divide human beings into different groups and the Quran divides humans into two groups: those who move toward Him and those who move away from Him.
He noted that in order for one to be addressed by God, he can join the group of “good ones” like Muminoon (the faithful), Muttaqin (the pious), etc.
The scholar added that the Holy Quran points out five characteristics for the faithful: having faith in the Ghayb (the unseen), saying prayers, giving alms, believing in Divine books and beleiving in the Hereafter.
He referred to the faith in God as the mother of all virtues, adding that God has 1000 names, all of which can be summed up in the name Rahman, the compassionate.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Hojat-ol-Islam Fa’alli noted that life is accompanied with problems as well as happiness.
“Living a life with no problems is impossible in this world,” he said. “Thus, we should get ready to confront problems.”
The cleric urged that everyone should look at problems as if they were in a mathematics calls and requested to solve math problems.
“Always think of solutions rather than how to run away from problems,” he stated.
The 9th session of the forum on faith-based style of life was held at the Iranian Academics Quranic Activities Organization on Tuesday, February 19.
