Islamic Schools Rated Britain's Best
With students achieving amazing results, Islamic schools have been rated as the highest-achieving learning institutes in Britain.
They "are achieving amazing results with some of our most vulnerable learners – those who have done poorly at primary school and those who are in foster care or from low-income families," Hamid Patel, Principal of Tauheedul Islam Girls’ High School, told The Muslim News.
The school, in the industrial town of Blackburn, was the highest-achieving educational institute in the city with Darwen in North West England.
Results showed that 95 percent of students achieved 5+ A*-C (including English and Maths), while 76 percent achieved the newly introduced English Baccalaureate.
The outcome places the Islamic school nationally above all non-selective schools.
Statistics from the Department of Education also showed that Tauheedul is the best school in the country for achievement by students with low prior achievement at primary school.
The majority of students with low prior achievement (93 percent) achieved 5A*-Cs (including English and Maths) at Tauheedul, nationally.
Tauheedul is ranked the best non-selective school nationally for students from disadvantaged backgrounds who achieve the English Baccalaureate, with 68 percent achieving this measure.
This achievement is not the first for the school which was awarded many titles over the past year.
In March, the school was shortlisted for ‘Secondary School of the Year’ by the Times Educational Supplement annual awards.
In May, the school was rated as “outstanding” following an Ofsted inspection, the first and only secondary school in the Borough to receive such an award.
In their report, inspectors praised “highly effective” teaching, a “culture of high expectations” and “exceptionally polite and considerate” students.
In London, the Tayyibah Girls’ School topped 22 schools in Hackney with a whopping 100 percent of all students achieving 5 + GCSEs at grades A*-C (including English and Maths) a 17 percent improvement on its 2011 results.
The outstanding results were not exclusive to Islamic girls' schools as co-educational institutes topped the league table as well.
British Muslims are estimated at 2.5 million.
