This is according to Mehdi Bahmani, secretary of the Union of Islamic Student Associations in Europe (UISAE) who, in an interview with IQNA, added that Islamic lifestyle pays attention to both material and Divine aspects of man’s life.
He underlined that in order to define Islamic lifestyle, one should bear in mind that according to monotheistic religions, man has two dimensions, namely material and spiritual. “Hence, Islamic lifestyle is an approach that pays parallel attention to both of these dimensions.”
Bahmani noted that the Western lifestyle, which has origins in hedonism and moral nihilism, or- in academic terms- liberalism, has no plans for the spiritual aspect of man’s life.
He stressed that a one-sided approach to each of these two dimensions of human life, will prevent him from his attainment of salvation.
The scholar referred to verse 143 of Surrah Baqara “And thus we have made you a just (moderate) community that you will be witnesses over the people and the Messenger will be a witness over you…” and said the Holy Quran calls Muslims the Ummah Wasat (moderate Ummah) and one that is far from extremism.
He underlined that there should be a differentiation between the Islamic lifestyle and the lifestyle of Muslims. “The reality is that what we are witnessing in Muslim communities today is not exactly based on Islamic lifestyle and its criteria.”
Bahmani said Muslim’s neglecting of the Holy Quran and Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) is the reason for their distance from Islamic style of life.
