The first interpretation (tafseer) of the Quran in the Tatar language was produced in 2001 by Middle Ages by Arab culture research specialist Enes Halidov with Islamic manuscripts and those from the Arab World.
However, the tafseer which was not published due to Enes Halidov’s death, will be published in its completed form by Head of the Department at the Russian Islamic University, Dr. Rezeda Safiulina.
The Holy Qur’an has been interpreted by 5 different Tatar religious scholars in Tatarstan to date, but due to various reasons, they have either been lost or cannot be replicated.
The first interpretation Tatar interpretation was completed by Burhan Seref at the beginning of the 20th century. However the pages of the manuscript style tafseer later disappeared. The second interpretation of the Qur'an text, prepared by the theologian Bigbulatov, is said to be preserved in a private collection but has not been examined and recorded yet. The third Tatar interpretation of the Qur’an was prepared by historian and theologian Murad Ramzi while in exile. However, no information can be found on the outcome of the study. The fourth translation was produced by Tatar religious scholar Musa Begiyev, but was not published when debates about its appropriateness were undertaken in the Tatar press.
The tafseer by Enes Halidov has been approved by the managements of the Presidency of Religious Affairs of Tatarstan and the Russian Islamic University.
