Bahrain’s rights activists have named today, April 17, as the Day of Religious Freedom in the country.
The naming marks the anniversary of the destruction of Amir Muhammad Al-Barbqi Mosque, which is one of the oldest mosques in Bahrain, dating back to 450 years ago, olamaa.net website reported.
The Human Rights Society of Bahrain says 72 percent of the mosques destroyed by the Al-e Khalifa regime have not been reconstructed yet.
It said the government is negligent about reconstructing the destroyed mosques and even sometimes tries to destroy the walls rebuilt by some of the people.
Yesterday, a program titled “Destroying Mosques, An Inhumane and Anti-religious Crime” was held in Beirut, Lebanon, in solidarity with the people of Bahrain.
President of Lebanese Muslim Council’s Board of Trustees Sheikh Ahmed Al-Zein, prayer leader of Al-Quds Mosque in Sidon Sheikh Maher Hamoud, and head of Bahrain’s Human Rights Society Yusuf Rabi’i were present at the program.
