Abbas Araghchi made the remarks at the ceremony “Muharram and Ashura in the Mirror of the Documents of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs”, which was held Sunday morning at the Center for Political and International Studies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

He said the Ashura culture has become one of the foundations of Iranian identity over the centuries, and today its message in the form of justice, human dignity, freedom and resistance has crossed geographical borders.

Araghchi pointed out the importance of holding this event and said this ceremony is not just a display of a collection of administrative documents and historical correspondence, but an opportunity to reread part of the living memory of the Iranian nation, a memory that is linked to the name of Imam Hussein (AS), the Karbala incident, the culture of Ashura, and the rituals of Muharram.

He added that the uprising of Imam Hussein (AS) in human history, beyond a historical or religious event, is a school of life and an enduring charter in the field of the authenticity of justice and the pursuit of rights, and a fundamental document for resistance against oppression, deviation, and corruption, and the defense of human dignity.

The uprising of Ashura is the universal language of justice, and the Iranian nation has chosen this liberating school as the axis of a faithful life in various areas of personal, social, and national life, and the language of its pursuit of rights and anti-domination in the international arena for many centuries, he stated.

Referring to the documents displayed at this event, the Iranian foreign minister said this event is an opportunity to explore the collective memory of Iranians and reread the ancient ties of this land with the world through the window of Muharram, Ashura, and the rituals related to it.

“Each document is evidence of an interaction, and each page narrates part of the Iranians' efforts to preserve and transmit this ancient bond.”

Referring to examples of existing historical documents, Araghchi stated that reports related to holding Ashura ceremonies in St. Petersburg, Istanbul, the Caucasus, and Indian cities, as well as the formation of joint Tekiyes in Badkobeh and the activities in Baghdad, all show that Iran has always been one of the important centers of civilization for promoting human and spiritual values ​​based on the heritage of Ashura.

Referring to the continuity of the message of Ashura throughout history, he said for more than 1400 years, the movement of Imam Hussein (AS) has become, beyond a purely emotional reaction, a social and political movement; a sea that conveys the message of seeking justice and opposing oppression to different parts of the world.

He said Ashura founded a movement that has continued centuries later in the movements for justice and the resistance of nations.

In conclusion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs thanked the researchers, experts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, document scholars, and all colleagues who participated in the collection and organization of this event and said it can open a window for a deeper understanding of the Iranians' connection with the Ashura uprising and tell a corner of their efforts to uphold Islamic values ​​and human dignity.

At the end of this ceremony, the book "Muharram and Ashura in the Mirror of the Documents of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs" was unveiled.
