The meeting, chaired by Araghchi, was attended by the ministers of economy; roads and urban development; cultural heritage, tourism and handicrafts; and information and communications technology, as well as the governor of the Central Bank of Iran, the custodian of Astan Quds Razavi and the governor-general of Razavi Khorasan Province.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Araghchi said the working group had been established during the tenure of the martyred Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian to address the international aspects of Astan Quds Razavi’s activities.

He said the group was formed jointly by the Foreign Ministry and Astan Quds Razavi, with other ministries invited to participate depending on the issues under discussion. The Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts has been a regular participant in the meetings.

Araghchi stressed that the decisions adopted at the latest meeting should be implemented quickly, adding that the working group would also convene in Tehran to follow up on the implementation of the approved measures.

The foreign minister said more than three million foreign pilgrims currently travel to Mashhad each year, describing the figure as significant but emphasizing that the city has the capacity to receive many more visitors.

He added that measures such as those approved at the meeting could potentially double the number of foreign pilgrims visiting Mashhad.
