Yemen’s Armed Forces announced in a statement on Sunday that Saudi Aramco’s facilities in Jizan had been targeted after Saudi drones violated Sa’adah and Hajjah airspace.

Yemen’s armed forces said it targeted the Saudi Aramco refinery in the Jizan region with a drone, describing the strike as precise and carried out in response to Saudi drone violations of Yemeni airspace over Sa’adah and Hajjah provinces.

Brigadier General Yahya Saree, the spokesman for the Yemeni Armed Forces, said the drone accurately and successfully targeted the facility.

He stated that the operation was retaliation for “provocative actions” by Saudi Arabia, which he said had flown reconnaissance and spy drones over northern Yemen in recent days.

Saudi oil facilities in Jizan have been a regular target of Yemen’s armed forces in the past.

Reports also confirmed that explosions were heard in the Arab country’s Jizan and Eastern provinces, with the Saudi Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources reporting fires at its energy facilities.

It said a fire that broke out at dawn on Sunday at a Saudi Aramco facility in the country’s southwestern region of Jizan was extinguished by the company’s industrial security firefighting teams.

Saudi Arabia’s energy ministry also said a fire at its 400,000-barrel-per-day Jizan refinery on the kingdom’s west coast was brought under control.

Firefighters have “extinguished a fire that broke out at dawn” in a facility belonging to the Saudi Aramco Refinery in Jizan, the Saudi ministry said.

The ministry reported no casualties in the incident.

Saudi Aramco also shut the facility on July 27 after a Yemeni attack damaged its Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle complex and tank farm.

At the time, Yemen’s Armed Forces claimed responsibility for the attacks on Saudi Aramco facilities in Jizan and Yanbu.

Also, in Jubail, an industrial port city in the Eastern province on the Persian Gulf, a loud explosion was heard.

Saudi Aramco’s Berri Gas Plant, one of Saudi Arabia’s largest gas processing facilities, is in Jubail.

Reports said gas facilities in Jubail had been targeted and caught fire.

However, there is no confirmation yet of the cause of the blast, and it remains unclear whether the Jubail incident is linked to the Jizan attack.

The recent escalation follows Saudi airstrikes on Sana’a International Airport last month to halt humanitarian flights carrying patients and stranded civilians.

In response, Yemeni forces struck Saudi’s Abha International Airport with ballistic missiles and drones.

The armed forces also announced a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia to end the 12-year Saudi-led siege.

Yemen blames Saudi Arabia for the consequences of any escalation of violence, stressing that Riyadh has no option except lifting the blockade slapped on the Yemeni nation.

It says that the Saudi kingdom must stop its illegal aggression of the Yemeni nation and respect the legitimate rights of its people.
