Mohammad Reza Dehshiri, research and educational deputy of the Organization of Islamic Culture and Relations, made the remark in an interview with IQNA, adding that efforts by the Muslim world’s elites to reasonably defend the traditions, is another requirement for realization of the diplomacy of unity.
He said ignorance among some Muslims about the real beliefs of followers of different schools of thought, as well as the lack of readiness to accept the truth and reject old baseless ideas are some of the reasons impeding the realization of Islamic unity.
Dehshiri pointed to the policy of spreading discord as a means used for a long time by the enemies of Islam to undermine the power of Muslims.
“To get a clear picture of this policy, it suffices to have a brief look at what the colonial powers have done in Palestine, Egypt, Algeria, the Ottoman Empire, Saudi Arabia and India, and in recent years in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria.”
The ICRO official noted that this policy aims to keep the Muslim Ummah backward and inject secularism in the religious spirit of Muslim people in order to divide the Muslim world into separate governments and groups.
He said this policy undermines Islamic unity because it moves Muslims away from real and uplifting objectives and makes them waste the power that they should use in fighting the enemy.
“In order for confronting these challenges, pursuing the diplomacy of unity is an undeniable necessity,” he underscored.
Dehshiri further said the Muslim world’s elites should promote scientific dialogue and exchange of views, be realistic and moderate in their judgments and make use of all potentials of new technologies in order to strengthen Islamic unity and promote the culture of resisting against the world arrogance.
He concluded by saying that the world powers who see Muslim unity as an obstacle in the way of their objectives, and the fanatics within the ranks of Muslims, are the two main currents that try to impede the path to realization of Muslim unity.
