Secretary General of the World Assembly of Islamic Awakening Ali Akbar Velayati made the remark on Monday in an address to the opening ceremony of the World Conference of Muslim Ummah’s Ulama (scholars) and Islamic Awakening.
He said in the not very distant past the affairs of the Islamic Ummah used to be decided in the capitals of western or eastern powers but thanks to the endeavors made by the Islamic Ulama and Muslim nations many Islamic countries gained the opportunity to determine their fate.
Dr Velayati said many Muslim scholars like Ayatollah Mirza Shirazi, Imam Musa Sadr, Ayatollah Motahari, and others made sacrifices and even lost their lives to defend the religion and stand against the domination of foreigners.

“This is while for many people (in these countries) freedom and democracy are grounds for revival of religious values.”
Dr Velayati stated that in order to confront the West’s attempts to hijack revolutionary developments, with four international conferences were held in the Islamic Republic of Iran with the theme of Islamic Awakening.
