Ulama Urged to Confront Extremist Views

The scholars attending the World Conference of Ulama and Islamic Awakening underlined the need for Ulama to confront any extremist views.
In their final statement issued at the closing ceremony of the international conference, the participants said that under the current conditions, it is upon the scholars and thinkers of the Muslim world to clarify the theoretical bases and Quranic and Hadith foundations of the Islamic Awakening and oppose any radical views that seek to lead this popular movement astray.
“The spread of the Islamic Awakening tide and the recent developments of the Muslim world herald a new era in the Muslim Ummah’s political and social life,” the statement read.
“Given the fundamental role of religious scholars as guides for people and given the scholars’ mission to raise awareness among people, the World Assembly of Islamic Awakening decided to organize the conference with the motto of ‘Moving toward Renovation of Islamic Civilization’. The conference was held on April 29-30 in Tehran with the participation of over 700 scholars and thinkers from all over the Muslim world.”
The statement said that the conference was opened with the enlightening statements of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Imam Khamenei.
“The conference discussed the latest developments in the Muslim world, the opportunities, challenges and future perspective of the Islamic Awakening movement, and the responsibilities of Muslim scholars.”
It said the six specialized commissions of the conference discussed issues like the theoretical foundations of Islamic Awakening, the role of Ulama in Islamic Awakening, the favorable government system in Islam, and the future of the world and status of the Muslim Ummah in the future world.
According to the closing statement of the conference, the participants underscored that devotion to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and following his path should be the pivot of the Muslim Ummah’s unity and his Seerah should the model for establishing the new Islamic civilization.
They also stressed that the Islamic Awakening is rooted in the pure Muhammadan Islam and the massive, millions-strong presence of people, and that upholding religious values, reviving Islamic identity and civilization, and upholding social justice are among the movement’s main objectives.
They said the Islamic Awakening movement in recent years is the result of endeavors and sacrifices made by scholars and Mujahids like Sayyed Jamaleddin Assadabadi, Sheikh Muhammad Abdoh, Allameh Iqbal Lahouri, Ayatollah Kashani, Imam Musa Sadr, Ayatollah Seyed Mohammad Baqer Sadr, Imam Khomeini, Imam Khamenei and others.
The participants further said that the issue of Palestine is the most important issue in the Muslim world and underlined their support for the Islamic resistance movement of Palestine and rejcted any compromise.
