It is not enough for Shia and Sunni scholars to condemn the crimes of Takfiris but they must stand united in taking a decisive stand against these crimes.
Sheikh Alaeddin Za’tari, deputy of Syria’s Mufti, made the remark in an interview with IQNA, referring to the recent desecration of the grave of a companion of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in a Damascus suburb by Takfiri terrorists.
He regretted that Takfiri terrorist do not show any respect for human values and destroy everything to reach their objectives.
“These days, the terrorist groups have exhumed the grave of Hujr Ibn Uday, the great companion of the Holy prophet (PBUH), thus committing yet another crime. They are happy with the crime they have committed and feel no remorse.”
The Syrian cleric underlined that by desecrating the grave of Hujr Ibn Uday, the terrorists have revealed their hatred toward the Islamic culture.
He said these Takfiris (radicals who consider their fellow Muslims as infidels) are criminals who only care about their own deviated thought that is based on destroying any other ideas than one’s own.
Sheikh Alaeddin Za’tari stressed that Shia and Sunni scholars should maintain their solidarity and stand united in not only condemning these crimes but also taking decisive measures to confront them.
He said that crimes such as defiling sacred sites hurt sentiments of Muslims and lead to discord in the Islamic Ummah.
Secretary of Syria’s Fatwa and Religious Education Department added that scholars and religious leaders should invite Muslims to self-restraint on the face of these acts of blasphemy and prevent sectarianism and further tension.
He also urged the scholars and those who are devoted to the Sahaba (companions of the Holy prophet (PBUH) to hold on to the principle of Islamic Awakening and raise awareness among people about the conspiracies of the enemies of Islam.
Wahhabi extremists desecrated the grave of Hujr ibn Uday near the capital, Damascus on Wednesday. The militants attacked the mausoleum and exhumed the grave of Hujr ibn Uday and took his remains to an unknown location.
Hujr - a close companion of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and a staunch supporter of the first Shia Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS) - led the army of Muslims to victory in several crucial battles.
He and his sons finally fell victim to their loyalty Imam Ali (AS) and were murdered on the orders of the Umayyad Caliph Muawiyah in the year 660 CE.
