Head of the Committee for Academics’ Umrah and Atabat Pilgrimage said 25000 university students have signed up for going on pilgrimage to Atabat (Iraq’s holy sites).
Hojat-ol-Islam Seyyed Mohammad Faqihi told IQNA that the deadline for registration that had been set for May 14 was extended to May 16.
He said the reason for the deadline extension was because some of the students had not been informed about the registration.
The official added that only 2000 students will be sent to Atabat in this round of the pilgrimage and due to the large number of applicants there will be a draw to determine who will be on the list of pilgrims.
He said 5 percent of the students will travel to Iraq by air and the rest will go to Atabat by bus.
Hojat-ol-Islam Faqihi went on to say that in the next round of pilgrimage, which will be in the holy month of Ramadan (July-August), 10000 students will be sent to Atabat.
