Speaking in a press conference on Monday, Ayatollah Mohsen Araki said around 30 senior Shia and Sunni scholars from various Muslim countries will attend the meeting.
He said the greatest challenge facing the Muslim world today is the threat sectarian conflicts, adding that the Zionists and the world arrogance are behind these conflicts.
He urged the scholars, elites and senior figures of the Muslim world to get united and try to foil the conspiracies of the Zionists and hegemonic powers.
“Today, our greatest responsibility is preventing tensions and religious and sectarian conflicts,” Ayatollah Araki stressed, adding that any move that provokes sectarian tension is in line with the objectives of the enemies.
He referred to the establishment of the Muslim World Peace Committee and said the idea of founding the committee was raised and approved at the 26th International Unity Conference in Tehran.
Ayatollah Araki said the committee members are from Egypt, Algeria, Lebanon, Syria, Pakistan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Turkey, Iraq, and other Muslim countries.
“They are independent and have no affiliations,” he said, noting that the forum only provides support for the committee.
The WFPIST secretary general added that the committee will hold its first meeting on Thursday, May 16 in Beirut.
He hoped that the committee, in cooperation with the Muslim world’s scholars and thinkers, can take great steps to reduce the problems in the Muslim world.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Araki condemned the desecration of the grave of Hujr Ibn Uday, the companion of Holy prophet (PBUH), stressing that the enemies of Islam are behind such moves.
