The ground should be set culturally for participation of women in international Quran competitions, an Iraqi reciter said.
Speaking to IQNA, Hesam Al-Mindishawi said that given Islam’s emphasis on women’s social participation, there should be efforts to pave the way for them to take part in different social, cultural and religious arenas.
He said Muslims, both men and women, should learn the Quran and implement its teachings in their lives.
Iraq’s representative in the recitation category of Iran’s 30th International Holy Quran Competition underlined that the Holy Quran is a book that God has revealed to the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) heart in order to benefit everyone, men and women.
He said according to Islam, men and women have equal rights and there is also a lot of emphasis on women’s rights in the Hadiths narrated from Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS).
He added that women should also be able to develop their activities in the field of teaching the Quran and Quran recitation.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Al-Mindishawi referred to the Quran competitions held by the Islamic Republic of Iran, describing the country as the leading Muslim world nation in organizing Quran competitions.
“Iran, which has been treading on this path for years, is very successful in holding Quran contests and it can be said that Iran is the leading country in the Muslim world in this field.”
He said he attended many Quran competitions in Iraq before and it was his first participation in an international Quranic event.
Al-Mindishawi went on to say that Iran’s Quran competition was held at a high level and described the contest as a unique Quranic event.
