Holy Quran to Be Translated into Oshiwambo
Iran Cultural Center in Namibia plans to publish a translation of the Holy Quran into the Oshiwambo language.
According to IQNA’s branch in Africa, the Holy Quran will be translated from English to Oshiwambo in cooperation with Ali Lugambo, a Shia teacher, and a group of Shia preachers and lecturers of Namibia University.
Some Surahs of the Holy Quran including Surah Fatiha, Baqara and the 30th Juz (part) of the Divine book have been translated into the language so far.
The native name of the language is Oshiwambo, which is also used specifically for the Kwanyama and Ndonga dialects. Over half of the people in Namibia speak Oshiwambo, particularly the Ovambo people.
Taking into account that a large number of students and intellectuals in Namibia are willing to know about Islam and the Holy Quran’s teachings, translation of the holy book is one of the best methods for dissemination of the culture of Islam in this country.
