This is according to Hojat-ol-Islam Abdul Karim Bahjatpour, academic board member of the Islamic Culture and Thought Research Center, who told IQNA that sometimes it is said that the Quran has statements and propositions for building a civilization or has a potential for building a civilization but the fact is that it once did create a civilization.
He noted that the Quran was revealed in an environment that had no civilizational dimensions and there were no civilization-making components in it, but God chose the Arabian Peninsula for the emergence of the Islamic civilization to show the civilization-making capacity of the Quran and Islam.
Hojat-ol-Islam Bahjatpour referred to verse 2 of Surah Al-Jumua “It is He who has sent among the unlettered a Messenger from themselves reciting to them His verses and purifying them and teaching them the Book and wisdom - although they were before in clear error,” and said the Quran was revealed in a society whose people were in ignorance and clear error.
He underlined that God turned the Arabian Peninsula into the cradle of Islamic civilization via the Quran and the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) 23-year efforts.
People of the peninsula got so strong during these 23 years as a result of Islam’s program for development that they culturally conquered the other 4 civilizations (of Iran, Rome, Yemen and Egypt), he stated.
The scholar noted, as an example, that Egypt had a deep-rooted historical civilization whose culture had not been changed despite so many invasions but when Muslims entered Egypt, the people of the land offered all of their capacities for Islam.
He stressed that Islam and the Holy Quran have the potential to create a civilization or reconstruct and elevate other civilizations.
