In an interview with IQNA, Masoumeh Ebtekar underlined that in order to have a healthy environment and elevating the health level in society, it is necessary to return to Islamic and religious teachings.
She said the root cause of many environmental problems is detachment from the teachings of Islam and that in order to solve them, these teachings should be heeded again.
Ms Ebtekar said Islam is rich in teachings and guidance about different issues including protection of the environment and safeguarding the nature.
She said the environment is very much related to concepts like peace, adding “if we fail to uphold peace in the world, the environment will be damaged as one of the first victims of hostilities and wars.
She stressed that Iran is a peace-loving country and a leading nation in making efforts for promotion of peace and fraternity.
Elsewhere in her remarks, Ms Ebtekar, who has recently been appointed by President Hassan Rouhani as ahead of the Environment Protection Organization, said there are many concerns over environmental problems in the country, hoping that these concerns will be removed with the help of God and efforts by the people and officials of the country.
