Iran’s Leadership Hasn’t Sacrificed Islamic Ideology for Political Games

Iran’s leadership has not sacrificed Islamic ideology for political games, a French political activist said.
Speaking to IQNA, Philippe Hugon added that while the Islamic ideology, for which Iranian uprising in 1979 took place, was not sacrificed for political games, leaders in countries like Egypt fell victim to these games.
“In recent years, we have been witnessing uprisings in the Middle East in which Islam and a return to religious teachings play the main role. However, these uprisings are being diverted from their main path because of foreign interference and political leaders’ involvement in political games.”
He said one should not expect the recent regional revolutions to have the same fate as Iran’s because Iran’s leadership has managed to stay away from political games both in the country and abroad.
Hugon pointed to the role of Western plots, especially those hatched by the US and European intelligence agencies, in the Middle East, saying that the equations in the Middle East are very complex and changing.
On Syria, he said the main reason why the US decided not to strike Syria was Washington’s economic woes.
He said Britain, whose parliament voted against striking Damascus because of the opposition from the public opinion, was the country that sold materials to Syria in 2004 needed for making chemical weapons.
The French political activist regarded French President Francois Hollande’s position toward Syria as irresponsible and said Hollande announced readiness to attack Syria despite strong opposition to such an attack from people in France.
He said the ambitious French president unduly recognized Syria’s rebels and, along with the US, Britain and Israel, provided them with weapons and military equipment. “It should not be forgotten, of course, that Qatar and Saudi Arabia paid for the military equipment delivered to Syrian rebels.”
Hugon referred to the role of Israel in determining the policies of the French government and said French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius acts in the interest of the Zionist regime.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the French analyst said the Persian Gulf Arab states act as the West wants them to because their only concern is remaining in power.
He stated that Arab countries of the Persian Gulf provide financial aid to the West to destabilize the region and also support the international terrorism.
Hugon underlined that the monarchies in the region are in power only because of the West’s support and if the West removes its support they will fall just like the former Emir of Qatar was forced to abdicate when he tried to act independently from the West.
“It would be the same for the king of Bahrain. If he does not move on the political path determined by the US, he will soon be overthrown in a coup.”
He also noted that Saudi Arabia plays a three-sided role in regional issues whose objective is remaining in power, helping the West and providing financial support for terrorism.
Hugon added that while the Saudi regime represses the country’s Shia population, the West that claims to be advocating human rights does not object to the Saudi regime and remains silent over the imprisonment and torturing of thousands of Saudi citizens by the regime.
