Establishment of a world Quran association will be proposed at the Abolfazl (AS) Festival in Iraq.
The festival is organized by the Quranic Center of the Astan (custodianship) of Hazrat Abolfazl (AS) holy shrine in the holy city of Karbala beginning on Wednesday, October 30, Sheikh Muhammad Javad Al-Salami, director of the center told IQNA.
He said the center pursues the establishment of such an international body in order to oversee Quranic activities around the world.
The cleric said members of the international association will be chosen in an election and that it will coordinate and oversee Quranic activities, programs and festivals by the members.
He said such a move could be a positive step toward elevating the level of Quranic activities, promoting coordination and avoiding duplications.
Sheikh Al-Salami also stressed the need for founding an international institution to monitor international Quran competitions, adding that the institution would especially be helpful in selecting members of competitions’ jury panels.
He said international Quran contests play an important role in developing and prompting the teachings of the Holy Book in the world as well as identifying Quranic talents in the fields of recitation and memorization of the Quran.
“They also serve as venues for Quran activists to get to know each other and exchange ideas and experiences.”
He urged that cultural programs should be planned on the sidelines of international Quranic contests in order to raise awareness about the need for confronting desecration of Islamic sanctities, especially the Holy Quran.
Director of the Quranic Center of the Astan of Hazrat Abolfazl (AS) said the sideline programs should also feature promotion of the teachings of the Holy Quran and defending the Quran and Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS).
He further pointed to the beginning of the Abolfazl (AS) Festival on Wednesday and said directors of Astan Quds Razavi, Astan of Abdul Azim Hassani (AS)holy shrine, chancellor of Al-Mustafa International University and directors of Quranic institutes from 13 countries including Kuwait, Syria, Bahrain, Lebanon, and Tajikistan have been invited to attend the festival.
Sheikh Al-Salami said the festival includes a national Quran memorization and recitation competition for teenagers, which is expected to help to identify the Quranic talents among Iraqi teenagers.
He noted that a forum titled “Role of Hazrat Abolfazl (AS) in Manifestation of Quranic Concepts” will also be held as part of the festival.
“There will be other forums whose themes have been proposed by senior seminary and university scholars,” he added.
