He made the remark on Sunday in a meeting here in Tehran with Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jafari, stressing that Tehran will stand by Iraq in confronting terrorism.
The so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), which controls large areas of Syria and Iraq, have been committing heinous crimes against people of both Arab states.
Zarif hailed the fact that today there is a consensus in the world about the real danger of terrorism and extremism.
Iran’s foreign minister further underlined Tehran’s resolve to expand relations with Iraq.
Al-Jafari, for his part, described Iran as a major player at the regional and international levels and called for development of bilateral ties.
