TEHRAN (IQNA) – Devotees of Imam Hussein (AS) from more than 60 countries on Saturday marked the day of Arbaeen in the holy city of Karbala.

They marched to the holy city in Iraq despite all the difficulties and threats by Takfiri terrorists.
Nearly 20 million Shia Muslims converged on the holy city to mark the occasion.
Arbaeen marks the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS).
The pilgrims arrived in the city on foot, by cars, buses and many other means from different cities of Iraq as well as Iran, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Bahrain, Pakistan and countries as far as Kenya, Tanzania and Nigeria.
Iraqi forces tightened security to protect the pilgrims against terrorist attacks. The Iraqi government has also adopted measures for an easier evacuation of pilgrims from Karbala.
Imam Hussein (AS) and his 72 companions were martyred in the battle of Karbala on the day of Ashura in 680 CE, after refusing to pledge allegiance to the tyrant ruler of his time.
