Egypt’s Int’l Quran Competition Begins in Cairo

TEHRAN (IQNA) - The 22nd edition of the international Quran memorization, Tarteel, and Tafsir competition in Egypt began today, April 18, in Cairo.

 According to shorouknews website, the competition was opened with the participation of Ibrahim Mahlab, Egypt’s Prime Minister and Muhammad Mukhtar Jom’ah, the country's minister of awqaf.

100 Quran reicters and memorizers from 70 countries are attending this edition of the competition.


Quran experts from Egypt, The UAE, Morocco, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Oman and Senegal constitute the judging board of the competition.


The categories of the contest include memorization of the entire Quran with Tarteel recitation, Tafseer and explanation of the causes of Quran’s revelation, memorization of the entire Quran with Tarteel recitation, interpretation of the 30th Juz (part) of the Quran and questions on moral virtues, and memorization of 20 Juzes.


The fourth category of the competition is for non-Arabic speakers and five top participants will be awarded in each category.


Mukhtar Jom’ah in an address said that a number of Quranic and religious figures including Sheikh Abdullah Basfar, secretary of the World Association of Quran Memorization, and Dalil Abu Bakr, head of the French Council for the Islamic Faith have been invited to participate in the competition’s programs.

The international Quranic event will continue until April 23.
