Azeri Translation of Quran Gifted to Imam of Baku Mosque

TEHRAN (INQA) - Iranian ambassador to the Republic of Azerbaijan gifted a copy of the Holy Quran translated into Azeri language to the imam of “Heydar” Mosque in Baku.

According to the Caucasus Cultural Center, the Quran copy was gifted during the Iranian official’s visit to the mosque on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Imam Ali (AS).

 During the visit, Haj Saber Hasanali, deputy of Caucasus Muslims Office and president of Baku Islamic University who is also a custodian of Heydar mosque, briefed the Iranian envoy on the features and activities of the newly established mosque.

He said that it is the biggest mosque in the Caucasus and that it covers a total area of 4200 square-meters. It has four minarets which are 95 meters high, as well as 65m-high main and 35m-high second domes.


The domes are decorated with the verses of the Holy Quran and the floors are covered with Iranian carpets.


He added that the Iranian official is the first ambassador to the country who has visited the mosque.

Hasanali further highlighted the efforts made in his country to repair and equip mosques and cultural centers.


He also highlighted the friendly relations and cultural commonalities between Iran and Azerbaijan and expressed hope that mutual cooperation between the two countries will develop in religious and cultural fields.


The construction of Heydar Mosque started in September, 2012, and ended on December 26, 2014.
