According to Al-Bayan newspaper, Ibrahim Muhammad Bumelhah, head of the organizing committee of Dubai Holy Quran Award, said that the preliminary stage of the competition was organized for different age groups including children and teenagers under 15, the youth from 15 to 25 and adults aged above 26, imams of mosques and muezzins.
113 participants competed in the first group from among whom 13 qualified to attend the final stage.
The second and third groups were respectively attended by 79 and 45 contestants and 16 and 7 made it to the final round of the competition.
95 imams of mosques and 62 muazzins competed in the preliminary stage and 14 imams and 5 muezzins managed to go to the final stage.
The Dubai International Holy Quran Award Institute in Al-Mamzar region is hosting the final competition which will continue until May 15.
Winners will be awarded at the closing ceremony of the Quranic event to be held on May 19 at the institute.
