TEHRAN (IQNA) - Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) called on the international community to take immediate action to preserve the civilization landmarks and monuments in the historic Syrian city of Palmyra which fell to ISIL terrorist group.

Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri said in a statement to the media that the fall of this historic city to Daesh (ISIL) organization will place its civilization landmarks at increased risk of destruction and looting, which will eventually be a tremendous loss of a major part of the history of Arab Islamic civilization.

ISESCO Director General also expressed his surprise at the failure of the US-led alliance forces to stop the expansion of this terrorist organization in Iraq and Syria. This, he added, casts considerable doubts on the objectives this alliance seeks to achieve on the ground.
