It is being held at Saqr al-Saqaran Mosque in al-Qayruwan region of Kuwait on memorization and Tajweed recitation of the Quran, 3robanews website reported.
Contenders from different age groups as well as non-Arab speaking expatriats living in Kuwait are attending the contest.
According to Walid Shaaty, the competition’s supervisor, it is aimed at fostering the Quranic teachings in society and encouraging people to memorize and act on the verses of the Holy Book.
It also helps to revive the role of mosques in holding Quranic activities, Shaaty said.
He noted that the arbitration committee of the contest comprises senior Kuwaiti Quran experts including Ahmed Saeed, Abdullah Salim al-Unzi and Riza Siyaq Ibrahim.
During the holy month of Ramadan, various Quranic programs are held across the Muslim world to promote reading the Quran and contemplating its concepts.
This year, the holy month began on June 18 and continues until July 17.
